"We Are Abel" Benefit - This was an event we held in honor of Kindergartner Abel D. Abel was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and was in need of a heart transplant after several previous surgeries and hospital stays. This was a project that we planned with the help of school administration, community members, FBLA and Abel's family. Our goal for the event was to bring awareness to Abel's condition and to raise funds to help cover the cost of his medical care. The benefit consisted of a soup supper, silent auction, carnival for kids and raffle items like a weekend trip to the Omaha Zoo and a meat bundle. Our FCCLA members worked the raffle, carnival, made treats for Go Red night, as well as setting up and tearing down from the event. The night was a tremendous success that ended with us being able to present the Dolney family with generous check to help cover the cost of Abel's medical expenses. The hard work of the students allowed them to present a check for $24,000 to Abel's family to help with medical expenses and living expenses related to his medical care.

Abel Night - The event consisted of a Go Red for Abel night at the volleyball game the week of the event in which we sold red colored treats, told Abel's story and the everyone wore red in honor of Abel who was hospitalized at the time. The students also waved to Abel as he watched the live broadcast from his hospital room. The students spent an entire Saturday making treats for the Go Red for Abel night that they would sell and then put the profits towards the We Are Abel benefit. The students also sold and wore Abel shirts to honor Abel and his battle.

Kindness Cupcakes - The kindness cupcakes project was an FCCLA project to spread kindness throughout the school by giving each person in the school a cupcake with a kind message about them. The students made the cupcakes, decorated them and then wrote a message to each person in the school including all students K-12 and every staff member within the school system. The chapter members chose this project because they thought that everyone should know how important they are to our school and community.
